A New Project in the Works!
a new music theatre piece conceived and composed by Overtone
Industries' Artistic Director O-Lan Jones.
Iceland follows the story of Vala, a woman who retreats to the north of Iceland — running away from a bad relationship. At the airport, en route to her destination, she has a chance meeting with Mundur, an airline clerk. As Vala's plane runs into trouble, she parachutes to earth to a location off the grid, inhabited by sea dragons, mermaids, monsters, fragments of life, and unfinished things. As the official search party fails to locate her through traditional technology, Mundur follows his intuition to find her.
The new work is scored for men's choir, women's choir, and a live band that includes guitar, bass, cello, viola, French horn, trumpet, flute, and percussion.
Overtone has commissioned singer-songwriter Emmett Tinley to write original songs for Iceland. He is best known as the frontman for the folk-indie band The Prayer Boat and, later, for his solo work. Californiality called Tinley's self-tiled CD "Best Acoustic Album of 2012." Click here to see full review.
